One date, most of the UAE
If your financial year ended on 31 December 2025 — as it does for the vast majority of UAE companies — your Corporate Tax return and payment are due by 30 September 2026, exactly 9 months after year end. This applies to mainland companies, free zone entities, and many licensed individuals alike. Here is why 30 September 2026 matters for your business — and the plan to meet it comfortably.
Filing is the last step, not the first
A return can only be filed once the work behind it is done: books closed and reconciled, bank statements matched, taxable income computed with all adjustments — exempt income, non-deductible expenses, related-party pricing — and reliefs applied. For a business whose 2025 bookkeeping is incomplete, the real deadline is weeks earlier than September 30.
What missing it actually costs
Late filing draws an automatic AED 500 per month (or part month) for the first 12 months, rising to AED 1,000 per month after that. Late payment adds percentage-based penalties on the unpaid tax itself. None of this requires an FTA officer to notice you — the system applies it automatically.
Small Business Relief still means filing
Revenue of AED 3 million or less lets you elect Small Business Relief and pay nothing — but the relief exists only inside a filed return. An unfiled return means penalties even for a business that owed zero tax.
Free zone companies: extra homework
Qualifying Free Zone Persons claiming 0% must file with audited financial statements and transfer pricing compliance in place. If your free zone company has never been audited, that audit needs to start now, not in September.
A realistic timeline from today
July: finalise 2025 books and start the audit if you need one. August: compute taxable income, resolve related-party questions, decide on reliefs. Early September: review and file — leaving buffer for EmaraTax queries. Businesses that file in September’s last week are gambling with portal congestion and their own missing documents.
